True Motive of U.S. Policy towards Cuba
February 18, 2011

Pyongyang, February 18 (KCNA) — The United States has accused Cuba again of its “human rights problem”.

The U.S. urges Cuba to ensure “human rights” of criminals, describing them as “people desirous of freedom”. If Cuba takes a legal action against anti-state criminals, the U.S. terms it “crackdown”.

The U.S. even demands that Cuba launch a western-style “political reform”.

Meanwhile, it slaps an international pressure upon Cuba, labeling it as a “sponsor of terrorism”, prompted by a sinister political intention.

It is a worldwide understanding that Cuba has nothing to do with terrorism.

In order to overthrow socialist society in Cuba, however, the U.S. resorts to such a psychological warfare as anti-Cuba broadcasting.

Through 30 frequencies from 19 sites in the mainland, the U.S. is openly stirring up terrorism in Cuba.

The U.S. anti-Cuba broadcasting has further expanded over past decades. In a nutshell, what the U.S. seeks in its anti-Cuba policy is to instigate rebellious elements to create discontent, distrust and antagonism among Cuban people and overthrow the socialist system.

North Korean media condemns U.S.-Asian military alliance

U.S. – Japan – S. Korea Triangular Military Alliance Slashed
February 14, 2011

Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) — The need to foil a scheme to knock into shape the criminal U.S.-Japan-south Korea triangular military alliance is urged by a bylined article of Rodong Sinmun Monday. It is also essential for ensuring peace and security of Asia and the rest of the world and building a new independent and prosperous Asia, the article added.

Citing evermore undisguised moves of the U.S., Japan and south Korea to establish the dangerous triangular military alliance for aggression, the article went on:

It is a task common to the people of Asia and the rest of the world to frustrate the U.S. moves to build up the alliance.

This alliance is fraught with the danger of invasion and a war.

Its first target of attack is the Korean Peninsula, a top-priority task in carrying out an immediate task of the U.S. war strategy.

The situation on the peninsula is rendered so grave due to the enemies’ frantic moves for invasion that a war may break out there any moment. A war in Korea is bound to spread to Asia and the rest of the world or may even turn into a nuclear war. This will naturally plunge Asia and the rest of the world into a disastrous war and a nuclear holocaust again.

The U.S. seeks to put the Asian region under its domination and control by putting the triangular military alliance into force. Japan attempts to take the advantage of the U.S. Asia strategy for aggression and become a leader of Asia. The enemies’ criminal ambition to set up the alliance is becoming a grave threat to the sovereignty, peace and security of Asian countries.

It is a sacred cause of protecting sovereignty, peace and security of Asian countries and an urgent requirement of the times at present to smash the moves to build up the triangular military alliance.

RUSSIAN MEDIA: USA’s 2011 National Military Strategy: We’ve got the power!

February 10, 2011 Comments off

The following commentary is reprinted with permission from Pravda, Moscow.

USA’s 2011 National Military Strategy:  We’ve got the power!
By Sergei Balmasov
February 10, 2011

The USA has unveiled the 2011 National Military Strategy for the first time in seven years. The strategy, as usual, serves for the preservation of the U.S. predominance in the world. The appearance of the document is based on recent major changes on the planet. The authors of the strategy pointed out a number of challenges for the United States in particular and for the Western civilization in general.

U.S. strategists claimed that the shortage of resources in the world may trigger territorial disputes, which poses a direct threat to American interests. They are also concerned about the fact that the national debt of the United States “poses a significant national security risk.”

All of that is aggravated with a whole list of unsolved problems, which have become even more serious during the recent years. First and foremost, “the world’s preeminent power” has not been able to defeat terrorism and extremism. The war in Afghanistan continues, and the fire of Afghan unrest is spreading into neighboring Pakistan. The strategists of the U.S. national security wrote that terrorists had nested on the Arabian Peninsula, in the countries of north-western Africa and in Somalia.

Nevertheless, the authors of the document said: “We will be prepared to find, capture, or kill violent extremists wherever they reside when they threaten interests and citizens of America and our allies.” Therefore, it is not ruled out that the world will soon witness the USA launching another military adventure in the above-mentioned territories.

Secondly, the USA is concerned about the rising powers, India and China, as well as other regional powerful countries. The Americans are especially worried about China and its defense preparations in the Taiwan Strait.

In this connection, the Pentagon is not going to reduce its attention to South Asia and the Far East. However, the USA does not exclude increasing its military presence in potentially dangerous directions. “With partner nation support, we will preserve forward presence and access to the commons, bases, ports, and airfields commensurate with safeguarding our economic and security interests worldwide,” the strategy runs. Here, it goes about such old allies as Japan and South Korea.

Thirdly, the nuclear proliferation issue remains unsolved as well. North Korea has proved the possession of nuclear weapons to the whole world. Iran is just about to do the same. “The prospect of multiple nuclear armed regimes in the Middle East with nascent security and command and control mechanisms amplifies the threat of conflict, and significantly increases the probability of miscalculation or the loss of control of a nuclear weapon to non-state actors,” the document says.

To solve the problem, Washington intends to support regional allies, like Iraq, to develop the missile defense system, which Russia vehemently objects to, and to take defense measures against those violating the nuclear non-proliferation regime. The USA must be prepared to eliminate sources of weapons of mass destruction, the document runs.

Fourthly, by 2025, Washington predicts serious destabilization in a number of developing states because of the ongoing demographic explosion. The population of those countries will grow by 1.2 billion people, which will lead to serious food and water problems. “Conversely, in Europe and parts of Asia, populations are projected to decline and age with long term impacts to the global share of their economic output. Population growth and urbanization in the Middle East, Africa, and South Central Asia will contribute to increased water scarcity and may present governance challenges,” the report says.

In other words, the American supremacy is facing many challenges on different continents. One shall pay attention to the following telling phrase: “In this multi-nodal world, the military’s contribution to American leadership must be about more than power – it must be about our approach to exercising power.”

Thus, the U.S. National Military Strategy must be flexible to take account of all serious changes in the world. That is why the USA must be prepared to dealing with modern-day challenges without allies’ help.

“Let us not forget, the Nation remains at war abroad to defend against and defeat threats to our homeland. Our foremost priority is the security of the American people, our territory, and our way of life.” “We will pursue deliberate acquisition process improvements and selective force modernization with the cost effective introduction of new equipment and technology,” the report says.

U.S. strategists point out the necessity to maintain high prestige of the U.S. Armed Forces. According to the document, the state must continue to pay increased attention to improving the well-being of its defenders. “Just as our Service members commit to the Nation when they volunteer to serve, we incur an equally binding pledge to return them to society as better citizens. We must safeguard Service members’ pay and benefits, provide family support, and care for our wounded warriors,” the report runs.

Needless to say that the Americans could not leave Russia out of their attention. On the one hand, the document declares the intention to develop military partnership, continue the reduction of arms and build security in Central Asia in cooperation with Russia. As for the Asian security, the Americans, most likely, are planning to get Russia involved in the Afghan war.

The new strategy also mentions more important things about Russia. For instance, the USA is going to continue its cooperation with Canada regarding the issues of regional security, such as the development of the Arctic region. It is an open secret that Russia claims its right on the Arctic shelf, which infuriates Canada in the first place.

Here is another, rather expressive statement: “NATO members act as a stabilizing force on its perimeter, which ranges from the Middle East and the Levant, Northern Africa, the Balkans, and the Caucasus.” One shall assume that the Americans will continue to interfere in Russia’s internal affairs.

The authors of the new National Military Strategy are certain that the USA will preserve its economic and defense power in the foreseeable future. The USA still places its stake on brutal military force, which, as the authors of the report say, will contribute to America’s security and prosperity in the 21st century.

North Korean media: Aim Sought by S. Korea-Japan Military Cooperation

Rodong Sinmun on Aim Sought by S. Korea-Japan Military Cooperation
January 16, 2011

Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) — Defense ministers of south Korea and Japan at the talks on Jan. 10 blamed someone’s “provocations” and discussed the issue of establishing a “close cooperation” system to cope with them.

Rodong Sinmun Sunday observes in a signed commentary in this regard:

South Korea is tightening in real earnest its military nexus with Japan, covering up its crime-woven past. This is little short of paving the way for Japan’s reinvasion.

This is, at the same time, an act of vitiating the atmosphere of dialogue and negotiations between the north and the south and harassing peace and security of the region.

Japan has worked hard with bloodshot eyes to secure a legitimate pretext for its military overseas expansion. To cite an example, some time ago the Japanese prime minister openly expressed his intention to discuss the issue of dispatching “Self-Defense Forces” to the Korean Peninsula to rescue Japanese in “contingency.”

The recent military talks held between Japan and south Korea were obviously aimed at putting into practice the former’s scenario for staging a comeback to Korea. Such sophism about someone’s “provocations” and the like let loose at the talks were just rhetoric to cover up its sinister purpose. Japan is now availing itself of the mounting tension between the north and the south to prod the south Korean authorities into laying a springboard from which it can stage a comeback to Korea.

The south Korean authorities are turning their eyes away from the goodwill offer from fellow countrymen while unhesitatingly tightening the nexus with the Japanese reactionaries keen to launch a war of reinvasion against the Korean nation.

If they are interested in the improved inter-Korean relations and peace on the peninsula even a bit, they should give up military cooperation with foreign aggressors, an act quite contrary to dialogue.

North Korea’s state-run media KCNA “urges Japan to behave itself”

KCNA Urges Japan to Behave Itself
January 11, 2011

Pyongyang, January 11 (KCNA) — A diplomatic document declassified by the Japanese Foreign Ministry recently disclosed the fact that Sato, prime minister in 1969, proposed [to] the U.S. himself that Japan would provide a rear base to south Korea in “contingency” on the Korean Peninsula.

He said at the talks with the U.S. secretary of State at that time that “if there came a formal request from south Korea on this matter, it was his intention to let not only bases in Okinawa but those in other parts of Japan provide logistic support to south Korea.”

This discloses the invariable scenario of the Japanese reactionaries for staging a comeback to Korea as it provided a glimpse into the successive Japanese rulers’ wild ambitions to invade Korea.

In the 1950s when the U.S. imperialist aggression forces launched a brigandish war against the young DPRK [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] Japan offered its territory as logistic and sortie bases for them.

Officers of the Imperial Japanese Army provided to the “U.N. Command” explanations and detailed maps not only on the military strongholds in the DPRK, harbors, factories, schools, hospitals but also on the type of every facility and voltage used there to help the U.S. forces in their military operations.

Japan was not recovered from the aftermath of its defeat in the war but spared no human and material assistance to the U.S. imperialists during their aggression against the DPRK.

Japan, having such precedent, is keen to launch reinvasion in the new century under the U.S. war umbrella in a sinister bid to fish in troubled waters.

This is evidenced by the following fact: Japan is contemplating revising the “Japan-U.S. Defence Cooperation Guidelines” to hurl its “Self-Defence Forces” into the Korean front in “contingency” on the Korean Peninsula under the motto of “closer alliance” with the U.S.

In case the U.S. ignites another Korean war, Japan is set to take part in it as a force of aggression.

Japan had better draw a lesson from its history and behave itself.

North Korean People’s Army communique: U.S. and S. Korean puppets behind military provocation

December 21, 2010 Comments off

KPA Supreme Command:  World Should Know Who Is Provoker
December 20, 2010

Pyongyang, December 20 (KCNA) — The Supreme Command of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) released the following communique Monday:

The U.S. imperialists and the south Korean puppet military warmongers perpetrated such reckless military provocation as firing thousands of bullets and shells from the sensitive area of Yonphyong Island in the West Sea of Korea for an hour from 14:30 Monday despite strong warning of the KPA and condemnation of the public at home and abroad, far from drawing a lesson from the disgraceful defeat they suffered in the last Yonphyong Island shelling.

Their military provocation was a product of their cunning scenario to deliberately lead the military counteraction of the DPRK to driving the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the brink of a war and thus save the U.S. Asia policy and strategy toward the DPRK from bankruptcy.

It was, at the same time, to serve the propaganda purpose as it was aimed at saving the face of the present puppet authorities now finding themselves in such profound ruling crisis that it is hard for them to complete the tenure of their office because of their ignorance and incompetence and delivering the puppet military from its decline.

This was nothing but a childish play with fire of cowards without an equal as they made much fuss, firing shells left unused during the military provocation on November 23 after shifting by stealth the waters to be a scene of the projected shelling and its target for fear of the KPA’s second and third retaliatory blows for self-defence.

The revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK did not feel any need to retaliate against every despicable military provocation like one taking revenge after facing a blow.

The second and third powerful retaliatory strike to be made by the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK knowing no limit as declared before the world will lead to blowing up the bases of the U.S. and south Korean puppet warmongers.

The world should properly know who is the true champion of peace and who is the real provocateur of a war.

North Korean media: KCNA Warns against U.S.- S. Korean Puppet Group’s Rash Acts

KCNA Warns against U.S.- S. Korean Puppet Group’s Rash Acts
December 5, 2010

Pyongyang, December 5 (KCNA) — The Korean Central News Agency is authorized to release Sunday the following report:

The south Korean puppet group, far from drawing a lesson from the deserved punishment it faced for its reckless firing of shells into the territorial waters of the DPRK side around Yonphyong Island, is getting more frantic in military provocations and war moves under this pretext.

The puppet group staged the largest-ever madcap combined exercises together with the U.S. in waters of the West Sea of Korea with its nuclear carrier flotilla involved right after the shelling incident on Yonphyong Island. It plans to stage large-scale combined naval maneuvers with huge armed forces of the U.S. Seventh Fleet including its nuclear submarines involved in the near future.

It noisily announced that firing exercises would be staged at 29 places in the East, West and South seas of south Korea simultaneously from Monday.

Taechong Island, one of the five islands in the West Sea very close to the territory of the DPRK, is included in them.

The puppet forces are loudly advertising that they would fire shells into the territorial waters of the DPRK side from Yonphyong Island, i.e. in the same direction they did when committing the recent provocation. This indicates how frantic they have become in their provocative acts.

They are getting very busy massively introducing latest weapons including MLRS and missiles into Yonphyong Island to reinforce the fire power and installations and stage a take-shelter drill.

The puppet military war-like forces were reported to have already worked out the so-called “retaliatory plan” which calls for sparking off an armed clash after getting on the nerves of the DPRK militarily and taking a large-scale counter-action under this pretext and designated Yonphyong Island as an ignition point to put it into practice.

This indicates that the Lee Myung Bak group is set to orchestrate the second Yonphyong Island incident at any cost and ignite a war come what may under this pretext.

The puppet group is so hell-bent on the moves to escalate the confrontation and start a war that it is recklessly behaving, bereft of reason.

The war-like forces including the new puppet defence minister vociferated about the “principal enemy” and the like while daring take issue with even the leadership of the DPRK. They blustered that they would make a “precision strike” at artillery positions of the DPRK and “reduce them to ashes” by modifying the “rules for battles” and setting in motion all the war means including aircraft. They went the lengths of letting loose outbursts that they would use the defence positions on the five islands in the West Sea as springboards for attack from which to strike the strategic targets deep inside the territory of the DPRK including Pyongyang.

The frantic provocations on the part of the puppet group are rapidly driving the situation on the Korean Peninsula to an uncontrollable extreme phase.

No one can predict to what extent the situation will deteriorate in the future.

The DPRK is now maintaining a maximum self-possession and self-control.

If an all-out war breaks out between the north and the south, it will seriously affect peace and security not only on the Korean Peninsula but in the rest of the region.

Public opinion at home and abroad and the parties concerned are called upon to pay a serious attention to the daily worsening situation on the peninsula and properly understand who is a provocateur and who is a defender of justice.

The U.S. and the puppet group would be well advised to stop acting rashly, pondering over the catastrophic consequences to be entailed by their reckless military provocation.

North Korean media: KCNA Holds U.S. Wholly Responsible for Nuclear Threat and Proliferation

December 2, 2010 Comments off

The following article is reprinted with permission from Korea News Service (KNS), Tokyo, citing North Korea’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Pyongyang.

KCNA Holds U.S. Wholly Responsible for Nuclear Threat and Proliferation
December 1, 2010

Pyongyang, December 1 (KCNA) — Recently the Singaporean Straits Times issued an article confirming Israel’s access to nukes, attracting the attention of the international community.

According to it, in 1969 the then U.S. President Nixon at the talks with the then Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir concluded a secret agreement to the effect that the U.S. would connive at Israel’s nuclear capability and give up the pressure upon it to accede to the NPT [Non-Proliferation Treaty] on condition that Israel would make public its nuclear capability as it pleased. It was reported that the successive U.S. presidents including the present Obama administration have kept the agreement in top secrecy. Since then Israel has pursued a NCND policy regarding its access to nukes.

This is clear evidence bringing to light Israel’s nuclear development and the injustice of the double standard applied by the U.S. over the nuclear issue.

Israel’s possession of nukes has long been a major topic of discussion by the international community.

From late in the 1940s Israel kicked off its nuclear program in secrecy and tried hard to acquire technology for the manufacture of nuclear weapons. During the Third Middle East War it possessed 15 nuclear warheads and in the1980s their number reached 200. It was reported to have stockpiled hundreds of tons of substance needed for the production of nukes. As a result, Israel has become the world’s sixth largest possessor of nukes.

It was none other than the U.S. which zealously helped Israel go nuclear both technically and materially and protected and connived at it.

After deciding to give “aid” to Israel in its nuclear development, the U.S. sent nuclear-physicists to it. And the U.S. delivered highly enriched uranium to Israel, putting spurs to its nuclear development.

The world is making uproar over Israel’s access to nuclear weapons and nuclear proliferation but the U.S. has connived at it. The U.S. did the same when this year the British Guardian revealed the fact that in the 1970s the governments of Israel and South Africa held secret talks and a deal in nukes.

Even the U.S. diplomatic chief said that the biggest concern in the world is terrorists’ possible access to substance for the manufacture of nuclear bombs, adding that Israel is able to do a lot to prevent this.

Encouraged by the U.S., Israel went the lengths of asserting that there is no reason for the international community to pressurize it over the nuclear issue. It grumbled that some countries are threatening Israel’s existence.

This goes to prove that the U.S. is the accomplice and helper of Israel in its nuclear weaponization.

The U.S. is pulling up those countries which incur its displeasure over their nuclear activities for peaceful purposes and labeling them “nuclear criminals” while conniving, patronizing and cooperating with its “allies” and followers’ nuclear weaponization. Typical examples of this are the U.S. attitude towards the DPRK and Iran.

Needless to say, this stand and attitude of the U.S. are no more than a double standard, a serious breach of the principle of impartiality in the nuclear field.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is giving spurs to the modernization of nukes.

Recently the U.S. conducted a sub-critical nuclear test under the pretext of “ensuring the security of nuclear arsenal” and it is set to spend 4 billion U.S. dollars for the modernization of nuke facilities.

The ulterior motive of the Obama administration professing “a world without nuclear weapons” was brought to light by its nuclear tests and scenario for the modernization of nuke production, a violation of its advocacy.

The U.S. plan to build “a world without nuclear weapons” is nothing but a smokescreen to cover up its ambition for world domination based on nukes and deceive the world people.

It is another hideous crime against humankind that the U.S., the world’s biggest possessor of nukes and a nuclear war criminal, is persistently pursuing its nuclear scenario.

No one is allowed to high-handedly and arbitrarily behave and has any right to apply a double standard in the nuclear field.

The U.S. is wholly to blame for the nuclear threat and the danger of nuclear proliferation mounting worldwide.

North Korea media: ‘Merciless Counteraction against Any Provocation Warned’

November 29, 2010 Comments off

Merciless Counteraction against Any Provocation Warned
November 28, 2010

Pyongyang, November 28 (KCNA) — Some days ago, the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK responded with an instant and strong physical strike to the reckless military provocation the south Korean puppet forces committed by firing dozens of shells at the territorial waters of the DPRK around Yonphyong Island in the West Sea of Korea. This was a legitimate exercise of the right to self-defence taken to defend the dignity and sovereignty of the DPRK from the provocateurs’ reckless moves.

Rodong Sinmun Sunday stresses this in a signed commentary.

The recent provocation by the south Korean warmongers is part of their vicious scheme to defend the brigandish “northern limit line” by persistently letting their warships into the territorial waters of the DPRK side under the pretext of “intercepting fishing boats”, the commentary points out, and says:

The south Korean authorities are now busy issuing the alert order to the entire puppet forces and examining the declaration of “posture for combined control over crisis” with the U.S. like a thief crying “Stop the thief!” This is intended to shirk off their responsibility for the serious military provocation and justify their scheme for confrontation with the DPRK and moves to ignite a war against it.

There only exists in the West Sea of Korea the extension of the military demarcation line fixed by the DPRK.

The “northern limit line” adhered to by the south Korean authorities is an illegal ghost line aimed at escalating the anti-DPRK moves and provoking a war against it.

Such moves for confrontation and war with the DPRK made by the puppet war maniacs under the pretext of “defending northern limit line” will bring nothing but shameful self-destruction to them.

The DPRK will deal a merciless military counter-attack at any provocative act of intruding into its territorial waters in the future, too.

North Korea media reacts to upcoming U.S.-S. Korean war maneuvers

November 27, 2010 Comments off

U.S.-S. Korean Warmongers Contemplate More War Maneuvers
November 26, 2010

Pyongyang, November 26 (KCNA) — The U.S. imperialists and south Korean puppet war-like forces announced a plan to stage combined exercises in the West Sea of Korea from Nov. 28 to Dec. 1, according to south Korean Yonhap News.

To be involved in this saber-rattling are USS George Washington and various type warships such as cruisers, destroyers, patrol boats and escort warships and antisubmarine aircraft as well as huge aggression forces of the U.S. and south Korea.

The Command of the U.S. Forces in south Korea announced that the combined war maneuvers were aimed to demonstrate the “alliance” with south Korea.

The situation on the Korean Peninsula is inching closer to the brink of war due to the reckless plan of those trigger-happy elements to stage again the war exercises targeted against the DPRK in wake of the grave military provocation they perpetrated against the territorial waters of the DPRK side in the West Sea of Korea while staging the Hoguk war maneuvers for aggression against the DPRK.
