Mandalay and Shan NLD support election boycott

Sympathetic residents from Mandalay Division and Shan State have agreed to boycott the junta’s forthcoming election, in line with central National League for Democracy (NLD) party policy, the opposition group announced yesterday. From Thursday until yesterday, NLD central executive committee member Ohn Kyaing and colleagues met grass-roots members from 25 townships in Mandalay Division and six townships in Shan State. “Not only grass-roots members of the party, but also many outsiders agreed to support our party’s decision to boycott the election,” Ohn Kyaing told Mizzima.

Opposition: China should lead Burma’s junta the right way

As China is one of the neighboring countries of Burma, it would be better to tell Burma to do the right way in relation to its political affairs rather than telling others to stop butting in Burma’s affairs, according to Than Khe, Chairman of All Burma Students Democratic Front (ABSDF) based on the Thai-Burma border.

Taiwanese Spies on Burmese Soil?

Despite its close relationship with Beijing and its professed adherence to the one-China policy, Burma’s junta has allowed Taiwanese spies to operate in the country for nearly two decades, according to Burmese intelligence sources. The sources said that dozens of Taiwanese agents have been working in Burma with the regime’s knowledge since the early 1990s, when a network led by a colonel using the Burmese name Win Naing was first uncovered.

KNLA Ambush Kills 2 Injures 6

Two Burmese government soldiers were killed and six injured in an ambush launched by Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) soldiers on Wednesday in Thingya Nyi Naung in Karen State, according to Karen sources.
